No Kings KC
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
For the flagship No Kings event at Mill Creek Park, parking is available in and around the Plaza. Parking garages are spread throughout the Plaza area. In addition to the garages, on-street parking is available around the area. Get there early to give yourself time to park and walk.
We also recommend parking elsewhere, along the Street Car route and take the Street Car to the Plaza area to avoid traffic and parking at the event site. You can visit the Street Car Site for more info, stops, and route info.
Always follow the directions of the event volunteers and organizers. Do not panic. Follow the event organizer and/or volunteer instructions and take any defined emergency egress routes from the park in as orderly as possible.
You will find the organizer admin tents near the middle of the park. The medical tent is available for medical needs. If individuals need a quiet place for a bit, the medical tent is also available for some respite. Safety team members will have yellow vests, medical team will have red vests.
We only require that you remain peaceful. Please use de-escalation tactics to avoid instigating bad actors or increasing risks for everyone at the park. Everyone's safety is your responsibility. Don't react, that is what they want. Be friendly, meet new people, and have a great time.
Please use the contact form to submit your request to volunteer.
Bringing kids to the event is a decision each parent must make for themselves. All No Kings actions in KC have been relatively safe with very few issues. However, the nature of these events means that there is always a risk of escalation from bad actors. Parents have brought children to each event so far so you must make your own decisions based on your children's ages, maturity, and your own risk assessment. Responsibility for the safety of participants and children is the sole responsibility of the participant, and the children's caregivers.
Each event is slightly different but usually there are speakers, organization tents to visit, and a march. Participants generally line the park along the streets with signs, whistles, bells, and bullhorns to lend their voices to the chorus of rally goers. Some events have additional activities like signature collection, art projects, etc.
Absolutely, many participants choose to dress up in various costumes. However, make sure you take into account your mobility and the weather to make sure you are safe in any situation that might arise.
What you bring depends on your needs but we always suggest bringing water, appropriate clothing for the weather, signs if you want to use them, sunscreen, and anything else you might need for the day.
Each participant is responsible for their own safety and must take into account the current political climate, weather, and do a personal risk assessment. We do have safety volunteers that work to keep things safe and calm but they are there in a volunteer capacity and ultimately, are not a guarantee of the personal safety of participants. Everyone must be responsible for their own safety and situational awareness at such events and each individual who participates takes part with the understanding that their safety is their responsibility and not that of the event organizers, volunteers, or anyone else involved with the event. That being said, anything can happen at any time but so far, most No Kings events around the country have been peaceful and without major incident.
